The first is a psilocybin analog and the second is a cocaine analog. He shows how cultivating this heightened emotional state literally creates self-induced elation.
While writing Bliss Brain, Church experienced a series of disasters. That included escaping the California wildfires that destroyed his home and office and claimed the lives of 22 people. The fire caused painful illness and economic disaster.

this time, Church practiced the Bliss Brain technique constantly, teaching
